Perkins Coie Achieves Historic Patent Litigation Win for AUO and Hisense in the Eastern District of Texas
AUSTIN, Texas (February 4, 2026)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that after more than two years of litigation and a trial lasting over the course of two weeks, the firm secured a significant defense verdict for Taiwan-based AUO Corporation, a global leader in display technology, and Chinese mainland-based Hisense Visual, a global consumer electronics and appliances manufacturer in the Marshall Division of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
This victory is particularly noteworthy as, based on review of verdicts in the Marshall Division dating back 22 years, it marks the first time a Taiwanese company has obtained a defense verdict in a patent infringement case against an American company in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division. It is also the first defense win for a Chinese mainland company in a patent infringement case in the jurisdiction.
In court, the jury ruled in favor of AUO and Hisense, finding it did not infringe two patents asserted by Texas-based Phenix Longhorn, LLC and further decided that one of the asserted patents was invalid.
"While AUO respects valid third-party intellectual property rights, we stand firm against unfounded claims. Our decision to go to trial was based on our belief that Phenix’s claims were unwarranted.
