California Raises Minimum Wages for Health Care Workers—Effective October 16, 2024

Doctor Medical

As we previously reported here and here, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law SB 525, which provides a tiered approach for the increase of minimum wages for the state’s health care workers. The new law was delayed until at least October 15, 2024 as discussed here. The new law will now take effect October 16, 2024.

The California Department of Industrial Relations webpage provides a Health Care Worker Minimum Wage Frequently Asked Questions. The new law will impact both hourly and salaried employees covered by the law (which is described at FAQ No. 3).

California health care employers with questions about the new minimum wage requirements should contact experienced counsel.
