The SEC’s Final Climate Rules: Coming Soon? (And Without Scope 3 Requirements?)

A number of media outlets (such as this Politico article and this Forbes piece) are reporting that the SEC Commissioners are reviewing a draft of the adopting release that would finalize the SEC's climate disclosure rules that were proposed a few years ago. There hasn't been an announcement to calendar an open Commission meeting to adopt the rules – but rumors indicate it could be as soon as sometime in March. Of course, rumors often prove to be incorrect – so we shall see.
And this Reuters article goes even further and reports on the rumor that the final rule might not include a Scope 3 disclosure requirement. That would not be a surprise, as SEC Chair Gensler has indicated over the past few months that investors were split over their desire for Scope 3 disclosures.
