A new year is just around the corner, but we cannot close out 2022 without looking back on the events that shaped the world of standard essential patent (SEP) and fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing.
As with everything, the year involved some give-and-take for both SEP holders and implementers, but the main takeaway is that rights' holders are generally riding tailwinds into 2023, as implementers struggle to balance competing and often pricey licensing demands.
