Perkins Coie Receives the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s Thomas L. Sager Award for Championing a Diverse and Inclusive Workplace
CHICAGO (October 13, 2021)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that it has received the Minority Corporate Counsel Association's (MCCA) Thomas L. Sager Award for 2021 in recognition of the firm's work to champion a more diverse and inclusive workplace, and to promote change within the legal industry.
The MCCA recognized Perkins Coie as the winner of the award and the top-ranking law firm among the country's largest law firms who participated in its survey, which was based on an extensive analysis of the firm's diversity data, as well as its recruiting, retention, and promotion efforts. The award was formally presented to Perkins Coie at the 2021 MCCA Virtual Diversity Gala on October 13.
"We're honored to receive this important recognition for our diversity and inclusion work," said Genhi Givings Bailey, Perkins Coie's chief diversity & inclusion officer. "We have been working to advance and accelerate our approach to diversity and inclusion for many years and it is more urgent than ever at this time amid the ongoing global pandemic, our country's reckoning with race, and other social issues. We remain focused and intentional in our efforts and look forward to continuing all our endeavors as a leading law firm."
The MCCA used a Diversity Scorecard industry benchmark this year to determine its rankings. The Diversity Scorecard is based on law firm diversity data across hundreds of law firms and across several years. The Scorecard uses an objective, data-driven methodology to rank and score law firms based on assessments of their demographic, recruitment, attrition, and promotion policies for women and diverse groups, particularly those from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds.
The MCCA's Sager Award is presented to large Am Law 200 law firms that promote a more diverse and inclusive workplace and have demonstrated a sustained commitment to improving the hiring, retention, and promotion of diverse attorneys. The award is named after former DuPont Senior Vice President and General Counsel Thomas L. Sager, a widely respected legal industry leader who improved the hiring, retention, and promotion of minorities and women.
Perkins Coie has long been recognized for excellence in the legal industry and for its commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work culture.
