A leading trial lawyer and insurance coverage authority, Vivek delivers results for clients in high-stakes litigation.

Vivek Chopra has recovered more than $1.5 billion for policyholder-clients in coverage litigation. As a litigator, he advocates for clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts as well as domestic and foreign arbitrations. Vivek also regularly counsels clients regarding policy language, renewal of insurance, and securing payment of claims without resorting to litigation.

Vivek served as lead counsel in notable cases including Perkins Coie's largest COVID-19 recovery of over $150 million for WorldStrides, a $100 million property damage claim for Hitachi Zosen Corporation’s Seattle-based “Big Bertha” tunnel boring machine, and a $300 million professional liability suit for Residential Capital Liquidating Trust, which is pending in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Prior to private practice, Vivek served as an assistant state's attorney with the Montgomery County, Maryland  Attorney's Office. He successfully investigated and prosecuted a wide range of crimes, including fraud and homicide; conducted numerous grand jury investigations; and represented the state as first chair in numerous jury and bench trials.

Vivek was the co-lead prosecutor of the Montgomery County Sniper Prosecution Taskforce in 2006. He led the month-long trial of Washington-area sniper John Allen Muhammad.

On a pro bono basis, Vivek represents juveniles charged as adults in felony cases. He has successfully argued for the suppression of confessions made by minors in violation of their Fifth Amendment rights, and his defense of a Maryland child resulted in reductions in the length of pretrial incarceration of children charged as adults. Vivek also represents individuals and families in deportation and removal proceedings.
