A former acting deputy tax legislative counsel for the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Vivek is equipped to help clients navigate the complicated scaffolding of tax law.

Vivek Chandrasekhar’s experience with federal tax, renewable energy tax credits, and real estate investment trusts (REITs), makes him an asset to clients grappling with recent tax policy changes. His government perspective and cross-disciplinary knowledge allow him to offer support when tax advice is critical.

During his time at the Treasury Department’s Office of Tax Policy, Vivek learned the ins and outs of the energy tax provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act and One Big Beautiful Bill Act. He also honed his knowledge surrounding real estate and partnerships taxation, the taxation of Native Americans, and other areas of tax law.

Vivek also spent more than four years as legislation counsel for the Joint Committee on Taxation. His work spanned a variety of tax-related focus areas, including legislation involving the income taxation of individuals, trusts, and estates; estate and gift taxation; real estate taxation and business taxation; and the taxation of U.S. territories.

Outside of his legal practice, Vivek has worked as an adjunct professor at the George Washington University School of Law, where he co-instructs a class on legal drafting for aspiring tax lawyers.
