  • Firmwide Co-Chair, Privacy & Security Practice; Firmwide Vice Chair, Technology Transactions & Privacy Practice

Miriam helps clients understand their data practices and meet their legal and regulatory obligations as new laws emerge in the U.S. and internationally.

Miriam Farhi counsels clients on privacy and security issues and helps them build global data governance programs. She has extensive experience developing data maps and conducting privacy assessments, enabling clients to benchmark their practices against applicable laws and regulations and identify and address compliance gaps.

Miriam also advises clients on comprehensive privacy laws, including the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and other consumer privacy laws that have proliferated across the United States. She advises companies on sectoral privacy laws at the federal and state level, including laws that relate to consumer health data, marketing and advertising, children’s privacy, and more.

Miriam works with clients across industries but has a particular passion for working with brands and retailers on privacy issues that arise at the intersection of retail and technology. She frequently advises clients in the retail sector that want to adopt and integrate new technologies into their business, such as artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, the metaverse, emerging commerce platforms, frictionless payments, targeted advertising, and more.

In the rapidly evolving field of AI and data governance, Miriam also helps clients develop data governance strategies that are robust, compliant, and ethically sound. She works with companies to design and roll out AI governance programs, assess third-party AI solutions and conduct vendor due diligence, carry out and document AI risk assessments, and more.

Recognized as a leader in her field, Miriam has been named one of America’s Leading Lawyers for Privacy & Data Security by Chambers USA
