Laia counsels international clients on data, AI, and digital regulations, offering deep cross-border privacy and compliance knowledge.
Laia Bertran Mayne represents major multinational companies across diverse sectors on complex data, digital, and AI regulatory frameworks, including the EU AI Act, UK/EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the Digital Services Act. Her experience includes counselling a global technology company on AI Act compliance, guiding an international vehicle manufacturer on cross-border data protection practices, and advising a global financial institution on data localisation requirements. She also has significant experience with online children’s data protection.
Laia spent several years in data protection and privacy before broadening her work to include AI and digital regulation. Her work centered on GDPR compliance projects, including the development of international data transfer arrangements, Data Protection Impact Assessments, and Records of Processing Activities. She previously served as a Research Privacy Fellow at Duke University in the United States.
Her earlier career included litigation work in one of Spain’s top law firms, where she worked with domestic and international clients in civil and trademark disputes, and bankruptcy proceedings.
Laia has completed secondments with an international technology and online retail corporation, as well as with a multinational bank. Laia mentors junior colleagues and plays an active role in diversity and inclusion initiatives, including programs that support working parents.
