Kahin Gabriel Tong
Gabriel Tong graduated summa cum laude and Order of the Coif from the University of Illinois College of Law.
He served as a production editor for the Illinois Journal of Law, Technology, and Policy and a staff writer for the Illinois Bar Journal. He was also the president of the law school's American Constitution Society chapter and a board member of multiple student organizations. As an advocate, Gabriel was a student attorney at the Veterans Legal Clinic and a member of the College of Law Trial Team. Gabriel won the Rickert Award for Excellence in Advocacy, the most prestigious award at the law school, for his participation in trial competitions and representation of his clinic clients.
Gabriel was a summer associate at Perkins Coie in 2021. He was previously a judicial extern to the Hon. Michael A. Forti and the Hon. James P. Murphy at the Circuit Court of Cook County, where he drafted legal memoranda and court opinions.
Before law school, Gabriel was a researcher at Stanford University. He has co-authored and published five scientific journal articles.
Gabriel maintains an active pro bono practice. Recently, he was part of a team that successfully defended a constitutional challenge to an ordinance of a large Illinois municipality prohibiting the commercial sale of assault weapons.
Gabriel is an active member of the Chicago Bar Association and Asian American Bar Association of Chicago.
