Jake protects and defends his clients’ intellectual property (IP) by understanding their innovative technologies and business objectives.
Jake Gober helps clients increase their company value by strategically building patent portfolios, analyzing third-party patent portfolios to help identify and mitigate risks, and assisting with enforcing or defending intellectual property (IP) rights.
Jake’s experience also extends to appeal and post-grant proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and supporting district court litigation. He also works on foreign portfolio development, including in Europe, Japan, China, Australia, and Canada.
Jake represents early-stage startups, pre-clinical and clinical companies, public companies, and venture capitalists, with a particular emphasis in the medical device, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical fields. His areas of experience include cardiology, ophthalmology, pelvic health, neuromodulation, orthopedics, orthodontics, ventilation, robotics, and nuclear medicine. Jake also represents clients in the food science and sports technology industries.
Prior to joining Perkins Coie, and while earning his J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law, Jake worked as a patent intern at CoMotion, the university's center for commercialization, helping develop and protect the university's IP. He also spent two years working in the Entrepreneurial Law Clinic, providing pro bono representation on IP matters to entrepreneurs and businesses in the Pacific Northwest.
