Fareid Asphahani, Ph.D.
Fareid Asphahani is a patent lawyer whose practice includes patent prosecution and procurement, patent portfolio evaluation, patent due diligence and assistance with litigation and transaction matters across a wide range of technology fields.
His practice also focuses on preparing and conducting post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent Office including inter partes review (IPR), post-grant review (PGR), and patent reexamination.
Fareid's technical experience covers biomedical, materials science and electrical engineering related technologies. Fareid has an extensive background in biosensor platforms for wearable health monitoring and drug discovery applications, nanoscale devices for drug delivery and health IT systems, including data processing algorithms, cloud computing architecture, big data analytics, remote monitoring, user interfaces, and app ecosystems. His patent practice also extends to semiconductor and MEMS devices, mobile application software, e-commerce, and biotechnology.
Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Fareid's professional experience included conducting research and development of single-cell impedance biosensor devices for drug screening and toxin detection applications, developing computer software for a leading technology company, managing a technology startup company, and teaching middle school sciences. Fareid also worked in-house at a medical device company, where he assisted in developing patent procurement strategies and freedom-to-operate analyses based on business strategy and product development and R&D.
Fareid is a co-inventor of a U.S. patent in the field of motion biomechanics and gait analysis, and a co-author of nine research articles published in scientific journals in the fields of biomaterials, biological sensors and electronics, and analytical chemistry.
