Erick J. Haynie

With more than 25 years of experience, Erick is a battle-tested trial lawyer who has tried over 50 cases to judgment across Oregon and Washington.

Erick Haynie has represented a wide variety of clients in business disputes, including real property and lease disputes, complex tort disputes, intellectual property matters, energy disputes, and agricultural and farming disputes. Erick is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has handled cases in nearly every county courthouse in Oregon. 

Erick maintains an active pro bono practice representing nonprofits in the Columbia River Gorge. Legal Aid Services of Oregon honored Erick with its highest award, the "Community Partnership Award," in recognition of his pro bono contributions to rural communities in Oregon. Erick has also received pro bono and public service awards from the Oregon State Bar and the Multnomah County Bar.

Tax Court of Oregon
Lead trial lawyer for taxpayer in dispute tried to the Oregon Tax Court (Regular Division) successfully reinstating forestland special assessment terminated by county assessor.

Synectic, et al. v. Berkman, et al.

Circuit Court of Oregon, Multnomah County
Trial lawyer for public employee pension funds against venture capitalist and national accounting firm. Claims were theft, conversion and fraud. Two-month jury trial resulted in verdicts in excess of $60 million.

Kollman v. Cell Tech, et al.

Circuit Court of Oregon, Klamath County
Trial lawyer for defendant of nutraceutical company in suit involving claims of breach of contract, conspiracy and breach of fiduciary duty. Three-month jury trial resulted in dismissal of all claims against the company. Affirmed on appeal.

HMLB v. Summercrest Development, et al.

Circuit Court of Oregon, Washington County
Lead trial counsel in two-week jury trial prosecuting claim for breach of contract and fraud in connection with the purchase and sale of a shopping center. The jury returned a verdict in favor of client in the amount of $650,000 in compensatory damages and $100,000 in punitive damages. Counterclaims for $4,600,000 limited to $500,000.

Lead trial lawyer for taxpayer in dispute before the Oregon Tax Court (Magistrate Division), successfully reinstating exclusive farm use special assessment terminated by county assessor.

Nimbus Center LLC v. Pete Anderson Realty, et al.

Circuit Court of Oregon, Multnomah County
Lead trial attorney in bench trial prosecuting breach of lease case against defaulting tenant, who claimed landlord failed to mitigate its damages as landlord. Judgment entered in favor of landlord for all past due rents.

Frahler Electric, Inc. v. Southwest Family Physicians

Circuit Court of Oregon, Washington County
Trial lawyer for medical clinic successfully defending adverse possession claim to ownership of commercial parking lot in Tigard, Oregon valued at over $1,000,000.

Canby Manor Estates, LLC v. Oregon Department of Transportation

Circuit Court of Oregon, Clackamas County
Lead trial counsel in bench trial of claims that Oregon's Department of Transportation deprived land owner of constitutional rights by installing a median on an adjacent freeway without due process of law. Judge Ronald Thom found constitutional violation by state and granted relief. Affirmed on appeal.

Trial lawyer in successful defense of excavation company in jury trial involving trespass claim seeking $2,000,000 for alleged flooding event.

Magna Entertainment Corp. v. KM Digital Services

Circuit Court of Oregon, Washington County
Successful prosecution of two-week jury trial seeking recovery of possession of valuable off-track betting premises associated with a regional greyhound racing park. Jury returned verdict returning possession of premises to client (landlord). The case focused on a debate over proper accounting methods as they relate to complicated lease provisions in regulated industry.
