Emily is a patent agent in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice.

Emily Morgan is a trained scientist in materials science and chemistry with years of academic research experience in inorganic functional materials, including semiconductors, battery materials, and catalysts. Emily’s practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution for inventions related to engineering, materials science, chemical compositions and processes, and other technical areas.

Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Emily worked as a technology licensing manager at the University of Southern California, where she managed patent prosecution and licensing of patent portfolios in the physical sciences. She also promoted educational initiatives for faculty and students on best practices for IP protection and technology transfer.

Previously, Emily worked as an associate in the materials and corrosion engineering practice at Exponent, where she performed technical product testing and assisted in the preparation of expert witness reports for IP litigation and international arbitration cases. She also conducted root-cause analysis on Li-ion batteries and consumer electronic devices.

Emily received her Ph.D. in materials at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where her research integrated experimental and computational approaches to the characterization of inorganic functional materials. She was awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and is the first author of five peer-reviewed publications. Emily also has a B.A. in chemistry with a minor in mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis.
