David Fentin

David counsels clients regarding the laws affecting internet products and services, including artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) technologies, autonomous vehicles, Internet of Things devices, social media platforms, e-commerce sites, and mobile applications.

David Fentin splits his practice between three major categories: commercial agreements, product counseling, and privacy compliance. Each vertical compliments the other, enabling David to help technology clients across a range of industries accomplish their business and compliance goals. Clients look to David for his extensive experience, his practical and creative approaches, and his tech savviness.

David’s privacy practice focuses on privacy laws enacted in the United States and abroad, helping clients to develop clear understandings of their data and data flows, remediate compliance gaps, and streamline their compliance efforts. Example areas of support include privacy policies, privacy by design and other internal governance, data subject rights fulfillment, data processing and intra-company agreements, and financial privacy compliance

As part of his commercial agreement practice, David leverages his privacy and intellectual property background and tactful negotiation skills to assist clients in executing a range of complex transactions, including AI/ML data and model licensing, collaboration and development agreements, API integrations, supply and manufacturing, ad network and analytics services, and many others.

David’s product counseling work includes drafting consumer-facing terms and advising on various product launch issues, like auto-renewing subscription compliance, online contract formation, and international product roll-out.

As an associate for Perkins Coie, David was seconded to two clients, assisting Twitter as product counsel and working as commercial counsel with Google X, Google’s moonshot factory. These foundational experiences helped David to develop a keen understanding of the needs of in-house lawyers and how best to deliver actionable advice.
