Daniel T. Keese

Dan is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property practice with a focus on patent litigation. 

Daniel Keese has worked on patent litigation matters involving such technology areas as electronic commerce, mobile gaming technology, video coding, analog circuits and semiconductor processing. Dan's patent litigation practice has allowed him to gain experience in courts across the country, especially throughout California and in Oregon. Dan has also represented clients in post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and in ITC actions.

In addition to patent litigation, Dan has litigated trade secret and unfair competition claims, and he has served in an IP counseling role. He also has provided pro bono representation of clients in asylum proceedings.

Dan brings his experience in litigation and his knowledge of technologies, especially regarding electronics, semiconductors, and communications theory, to bear when solving problems for his clients. Highlights of Dan's representations include obtaining a preliminary injunction in a semiconductor case, victories connected to claim construction, and three large competitor lawsuit trials. Dan has experience taking and defending expert and fact witness depositions, as well as preparing experts and clients for deposition. He also has argued numerous motions in federal courts.

Netfuel, Inc. V. F5 Networks, Inc.

Represented F5 Networks against a non-practicing entity in a patent suit involving networking technology. Case dismissed with prejudice by plaintiff after claim construction.

MACOM Technology Solutions Holdings, Inc. et al., v. Infineon Technologies AG, et al.

U.S. District Court for the Central District of California
Counsel for MACOM in competitor breach of license and patent infringement case relating to GaN-on-Si RF semiconductor technologies for cellular base stations, including for 5G and LTE networks. Won preliminary injunction against Infineon, which was affirmed in main part on appeal. Case settled favorably.

Radware, Ltd., et al. v. F5 Networks, Inc.

Represented F5 Networks in a patent litigation and jury trial relating to network packet routing. Obtained summary judgment of noninfringement on one of three patents, and favorable judgment on damages on other patents, all affirmed on appeal.

Mentor Graphics Corp. v. Synopsys, Inc.

Part of a team that represented Synopsys, Inc., EVE-USA, Inc., and Synopsys Emulation and Verification S.A. in a patent dispute through jury trial in the hardware emulation segment of the Electronic Design Automation industry.

Defense of Digital Music Patent Infringement Claims*

Represented a large consumer electronics company against a former practicing entity in a patent infringement action related to electronic sale and transmission of digital music and video.

Mapping Technology Patent Claims*

Represented a large consumer electronics company against a non-practicing entity in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and related proceedings before the US PTO in a lawsuit related to mapping technology.

ITC Patent Infringement Case*

Represented a large consumer electronics company against a competitor in an ITC hearing alleging infringement of patents related to video encoding and wireless technology.

Defend NPE Claim In Virtual Currency Patent Case*

Defended a seller of mobile games against a non-practicing entity in a U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California patent infringement action in related to virtual currency.

Web Server Technology Patent Claim from NPE*

Represented a large consumer electronics company against a non-practicing entity in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in a patent infringement action related to embedded web server technology.
