Brian T. Edmunds

Brian has repeatedly delivered victories in landmark opioids and tobacco cases, securing billions in value for affirmative and defensive clients alike.

Brian Edmunds has extensive trial and appellate experience in complex litigation on behalf of both government and private clients. For almost a decade, Brian served as the senior assistant attorney general for opioids enforcement for the state of Maryland. In that role, while leading Maryland’s Opioids Enforcement Unit, he formulated and implemented statewide opioid enforcement policy and served as one of the key litigators in nationwide efforts that have led to the recovery of more than $50 billion for the public.

Before joining Perkins Coie, Brian also served as a trial and appellate attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, where he briefed and argued federal court appeals and litigated complex trial matters. He also worked for many years as an associate at a national law firm, where he represented a leading U.S. tobacco manufacturer in its successful defense of high stakes government enforcement, product liability, and consumer protection actions asserting collectively hundreds of billions in liability. Brian additionally has secured extraordinary relief for pro bono clients in a variety of settings, from criminal defense to employment litigation and civil rights.

Brian served as a judicial extern to then-Judge Sonia Sotomayor at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in a program designed to provide clerkship experience during law school.
