Dr. Babak Tehranchi’s practice has two primary areas of focus: patent prosecution and post-grant proceedings. As an experienced patent prosecutor, Babak helps clients in procuring patents in high-tech areas including wireless technologies, cloud systems, optics, artificial intelligence, digital rights management, software, electronics, and medical devices. Babak also focuses on preparing and conducting post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including inter partes review, post-grant review, and patent reexamination.
Babak has more than 10 years of industry experience as a research scientist and engineer. He has extensive experience and knowledge in image and video processing, optics and photonics, medical instrumentation and diagnosis systems, mechanical and electromechanical systems, wired and wireless communication systems, semiconductors, information security, data storage systems, and printing systems.
Babak is the inventor of 49 U.S. and international patents related to copy protection, digital watermarking, data encryption, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, optical data storage, and printing systems.

Post-Grant Proceedings
Babak has been active in the post-grant proceedings since their inception in 2012 and participated in over 100 inter partes reviews (IPR), post-grant reviews (PGRs) and Covered Business Method Review (CBM) proceedings for clients such as Netflix, Hulu, Microsoft, Tyco, Lexmark, HTC, Netskope, Liown Electronics, and Peloton. Babak has participated in all substantive stages of the proceedings, including as the lead counsel, in drafting petitions, working with technical professionals, taking and defending depositions, filing various motions, and making oral arguments in front of the Patent Trial and Appeals Board. Represented clients on both the petitioner and patent owner sides. Worked on numerous ex parte and inter partes reexaminations on behalf of various clients. Babak is currently the co-chair of the Post-Grant Proceedings practice at Perkins Coie.
