Aaron Coombs has experience representing corporate policyholders in every stage of insurance coverage disputes—from pre-suit negotiation to appellate litigation—having represented clients in disputes over mass tort, product liability, environmental contamination, cyber attacks, and other claims. He has helped clients pursue claims under all types of commercial insurance policies—including auto, casualty, crime, cyber, management liability (D&O), property, transactional risk, and other lines of coverage. Aaron routinely counsels clients when purchasing insurance, and has extensive proficiency in identifying gaps in coverage and negotiating the terms and conditions for cyber-risk and D&O insurance policies. He also helps clients with insurance issues in corporate transactions, including placement of representations and warranties insurance, as well as additional insured and contractual indemnification issues.
Aaron has experience across a range of industries, including food and beverage, life sciences, manufacturing, retail, technology, and energy. He has helped clients recover over $1 billion in insurance proceeds over the course of his career.

Insurance Recoveries for Environmental Liabilities
- Represented Formosa Plastics Corporation in coverage litigation brought in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, seeking recovery under environmental liability insurance for the defense and settlement of lawsuit under the Clean Water Act.*
- Represented the Tennessee Valley Authority as member of Perkins Coie’s Insurance Recovery team helping to secure insurance coverage for the clean-up costs associated with the largest coal ash spill in U.S. history. The team recovered more than $330 million from property and liability insurers through settlements and two complete victories in two-month arbitrations against two Bermuda-based excess liability insurers. The first arbitration win, for more than $170 million on a $150 million policy, was reportedly the largest trial win over a Bermuda insurer in the last decade.
- Represented North Carolina’s largest electric utilities in the first-ever coal combustion residual (CCR) insurance litigation under newly enacted federal and state CCR rules.*
- Represented chemical manufacturer in seeking recovery for PFAS-related liabilities under environmental liability insurance policies.*

- Represented biopharmaceutical company in securing D&O coverage for settlement of a securities class action and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigation.*

- Obtained coverage for data analytic firm’s settlement of class-action lawsuits for alleged violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.*
- Represented Astellas U.S. Pharma, Inc. as counsel in an insurance coverage litigation filed in New Castle County Superior Court Delaware for defense and indemnity for underlying antitrust class actions and other matters. A successful resolution was reached approximately six months after filing suit.
