NEW YORK and SEATTLE (November 10, 2025)—Perkins Coie’s Sports Industry Group is pleased to announce the launch of Venues of the Future, a new cross-practice initiative that will support clients in creating immersive, tech-enabled sports and entertainment venues that drive economic and community growth.

The Venues of the Future initiative builds on Perkins Coie’s experience as legal counsel in more than 70 venue-related projects, all completed within the past five years. The Venues team brings together more than 75 lawyers across real estate, technology, finance, media and entertainment, and regulatory disciplines, backed by deep experience guiding clients through every aspect of developing and operating entertainment spaces of all types and sizes.

“Audiences today expect more from every live experience. We created Venues of the Future to help sports and entertainment visionaries transform their venues to meet this growing demand from fans, teams, and operators,” said Kirk Soderquist, co-chair of Perkins Coie’s Digital Media & Entertainment, Gaming & Sports group and co-leader of the new initiative. “With so much technological advancement transforming live sports and entertainment, there has never been a better time to be a fan, and certainly no better time to bring a venue of the future to life.”

In addition to Kirk, the group is co-led by Shirin Malkani, firmwide co-chair of the Sports Industry Group, and privacy and technology partners Nicola Menaldo and Ryan Spear.

Perkins Coie has played a key role in many high-profile projects, including the development of the Intuit Dome, home to the LA Clippers, and the reinvention of a historic Seattle landmark into Climate Pledge Arena—a venue that sets a new standard for sustainability and energy efficiency.

The group advises professional sports team owners, leagues, and investors, as well as venue builders, owners, and operators, through every stage of venue development—including land use and construction, technology integration, privacy and data security, physical security, sustainability, energy advancements, and venue operations.

The team has also provided guidance on brand partnerships and the creation of vibrant entertainment districts, giving venue stakeholders significant additional revenue opportunities.

Perkins Coie will host the inaugural Venues of the Future Week at its Seattle office and the Climate Pledge Arena beginning on December 8. The event will explore how technology, design, and innovation are transforming live entertainment and sports venues. These executive sessions will address key legal and regulatory topics, including AI, biometric data, privacy, media rights, construction, security, and compliance.
