Perkins Coie and One Partner Recognized as Leaders in 2022 ITC Intelligence Report

SEATTLE (March 31, 2022)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that the firm and Partner Kevin Patariu were recognized as leaders in International Trade Commission (ITC) Section 337 litigation in Patexia, Inc.'s 2022 ITC Intelligence Report, a comprehensive report of ITC data and analysis of law firms and ITC attorneys over the last six years.

Perkins Coie received numerous top rankings for its ITC Section 337 practice out of 367 appearing law firms:

  • #1 Best Performing ITC Law Firm for Representing Respondents
  • #3 Best Performing ITC Law Firm Overall
  • #4 Most Active ITC Law Firm for Representing Respondents
  • #7 Most Active ITC Law Firm for Overall (#5 when local ITC counsel firms are excluded)

Kevin Patariu, a partner in the firm's Intellectual Property practice, was ranked #72 Most Active ITC Attorney for representing respondents and ranked in the top 4% for performance of ITC practitioners representing respondents.

"It is an honor for our ITC practice to be recognized again by Patexia for our achievements over the last six years," said Kevin. "The rankings recognize our commitment to quality representation of our complainant and respondent clients in the United States and Asia at the ITC. A key to our practice group's success is our consistency year in and year out."

Patexia's report is based on data compiled from public information on ITC complaints filed under Section 337 between January 1, 2016, and December 1, 2021. Patexia analyzed the attorneys, law firms, and companies involved in Section 337 ITC investigations over this time and ranked them based on performance and activity. Patexia President and CEO Pedram Sameni explained the importance of the report, stating that "corporate partners can use it when making critical decisions about their ITC counsel." According to Patexia, the attorneys named in the report represent the top first and second percentile in their respective categories.

The ITC is an increasingly popular venue for intellectual property rights enforcement under Section 337 because of its fast pace and powerful available remedies. The ITC conducts Section 337 investigations and provides relief for intellectual property rights holders by barring the importation or sale after importation of goods that infringe upon a utility patent, design patent, trademark, or copyright, or goods that are made using misappropriated trade secrets.

Perkins Coie has one of the most active and successful ITC Section 337 practices in the country with a deep bench of tested, high-performing patent litigators who have represented both complainants and respondents.
