Partner Julia Markley To Be Honored by the Portland Business Journal at the 2024 Women of Influence Awards

PORTLAND (January 17, 2024)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Litigation Partner Julia Markley has been selected by the Portland Business Journal to be honored at the 2024 Women of Influence Awards, which honor established business leaders with a strong record of innovation in their field, outstanding performance in their business, and a clear track record of meaningful community involvement, especially elevating women.

Julia is litigation lead for the Portland office. She is an esteemed trial and appellate lawyer with a strong focus on client advocacy. Her experience includes representing businesses in disputes involving trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, patents, nondisclosure agreements, licenses, contracts, and other business issues. Julia has successfully enforced an executive severance agreement for an investment bank at arbitration, managed the enforcement of a nationwide class-action settlement agreement of product liability claims on behalf of a forest products company, and defended several class actions involving consumer protection and wage-and-hour claims. Julia enjoys an active pro bono practice and mentors junior lawyers.

Widely recognized as a leader in Oregon's legal community, Julia is the founding president of two affinity bars, the Oregon Filipino American Lawyers Association (OFALA) and the Oregon Asian Pacific American Bar Association (OAPABA). She is dedicated to advancing women's careers in the legal profession and currently serves as a board member of the Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation. Her dedication to advancing the careers of lawyers from groups historically underrepresented in the legal profession is further demonstrated by her significant role in shaping OAPABA's judicial endorsement policy, which has led to historic appointments of APA judges.

Julia's diligence and optimism convey a sense not only of the importance of diversity on the bench and in the bar, but also that significant positive change is attainable. Her contributions extend nationally as she has served on and chaired subcommittees for the Supreme Court Committee of the National Association of Women Lawyers, whose responsibility was to evaluate two U.S. Supreme Court nominees for confirmation.

Perkins Coie is a leading global law firm, dedicated to helping the world’s most innovative companies solve the legal and business challenges of tomorrow. Learn about our work and values here.
