Remembering Our Friend and Colleague Tom Alberg
Perkins Coie announces the sad news that our former colleague and friend Tom Alberg passed away on August 5 in Seattle. Tom practiced at Perkins Coie from 1967 to 1990, during which time he held various leadership roles, including Executive Committee Chair, and served as principal counsel for The Boeing Company, Alaska Airlines, and several early technology companies.
After leaving the firm, Tom became president of LIN Broadcasting Corporation and executive vice president of McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc. before co-founding Madrona Investment Group, a venture capital firm investing in technology startups. Tom played a key role as an early investor and board member in Amazon, joining the company's board in 1995 and serving on the board for more than 20 years. A prominent member of the Seattle tech community, he was honored with the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award at Seattle Business Magazine's Tech Impact Awards. Tom was also active in many business and civic organizations. In 2000, Tom and his family established Novelty Hill, a winery near Seattle.
