Genhi Givings Bailey was quoted in "Slow Going: Despite Diversity Gains, Some Law Firm Leaders Bemoan Lack of Progress," an article in The ABA Journal* regarding the slow progress of diversity in law firms.
Perkins Coie's Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, Genhi Givings Bailey, says there are many institutional barriers preventing women and people of color from feeling "like they are a part of the fabric of the organization."
There also can be a lack of transparency about how compensation is decided, Bailey adds.
"In some firms, it's a closed black box. You don't even know what goes into the process—and if there is bias in that system or in that process, what the impact is on women and people of color," Bailey says.
