Andrew Kline Quoted in Detroit Free Press—Michigan’s Cannabis Testing Industry: It’s the ‘Wild, Wild West'

Andrew Kline was quoted in "Michigan's Cannabis Testing Industry: It's the 'Wild, Wild West'," an article in Detroit Free Press,* regarding the testing of cannabis products.

Andrew wants that conversation to start now. Andrew is the co-founder of a group called the National Cannabis Laboratory Council that wrote a white paper last month proposing a standardized, national approach to the testing of cannabis products.

"We want consumers to purchase from the legal market, where products are tested, regulated, and safe," Andrew said. "You have to convince people that there's a reason that they're going to spend a little bit more money because they're safer than untested products. People have to have confidence in that process."

For example, when consumers go to the grocery store, he said, they trust that the products are not contaminated with salmonella. A recall, in theory, should be a good indicator that regulators are making sure the cannabis in the market is safe for consumption. "There's never a recall in the illicit market," Andrew said. "The fact that there was a recall is a good thing because that means that state regulators are looking at the issue and making a decision about consumer safety."
