What State AGs Want to See in a Federal Privacy Law

virtual landscape light movement

Rebecca Engrav moderated a panel at the 2020 Privacy + Security Forum Virtual Fall Academy regarding what should be in a federal privacy law, including whether a federal law should preempt state laws.

Both industry and scholars have weighed in extensively on what should be in a federal privacy law, including whether a federal law should preempt state laws. But what do state AGs, who have so much experience interpreting and enforcing their own laws, think? State AGs have been at the forefront of passing first breach laws, and now general privacy laws such as the CCPA. This session will feature speakers from several state AG offices to discuss what they hope to see in a federal privacy law.
