City of Los Angeles COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave Is Ending
During the COVID-19 pandemic, California and several local jurisdictions implemented COVID-19 sick leave laws. Many of these laws are now expiring. California's state COVID-19 supplemental paid sick leave expired on December 31, 2022 and Governor Newsom announced that the COVID-19 state of emergency will end on February 28, 2023.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti recently announced that the city's COVID-19 emergency declaration would end on February 1, 2023. Based on the city ordinance, the City of Los Angeles supplemental paid sick leave will expire two weeks later, on February 15, 2023.
Only three other locations in California continue to have applicable COVID-19 paid supplemental sick leave requirements in place: Los Angeles County, Long Beach, and Oakland. California employers should continue to monitor compliance with applicable COVID-19 sick leave requirements and contact experienced counsel with any questions.
