Nathanael Andrews

Nathanael is a competition and innovation lawyer in the firm’s Antitrust & Unfair Competition practice, where he focuses on the interplay between thriving business models and regulatory landscapes.

Having worked on litigation, appeals, and patent monopolies with issues centered on antitrust, administrative, constitutional, and federal and state regulatory law, Nathanael Andrews has substantial experience with the interplay between innovative businesses and competition, regulation, and litigation. These cases involved clients ranging from the platforms and building blocks forming the internet, mobile networks, and modern computing technology down to individual innovators surveying competitive landscapes. Nathanael’s practice emphasizes regulation, issues, and appeals, and includes substantial appellate experience drafting appellate briefs and clerking.

Nathanael leverages his technical background, including degrees in electrical and computer engineering, to represent companies in a wide range of industries, from telecommunications to cloud computing and services, software, semiconductors, analog and digital electronics, blockchain, and medical devices. He has particular experience investigating business models and products to drive litigation strategy. He uses his technical fluency, enthusiasm for understanding regulatory schemes, and firsthand experience as an entrepreneur and researcher to tackle tricky issues, understand the needs of clients, and provide critical counsel with consideration for the whole business.

Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Nathanael clerked for the Hon. Timothy B. Dyk of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He previously worked as a litigator at a global firm, was a patent fellow at Perkins Coie, and spent a number of years at a boutique firm representing technology companies before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. During law school, Nathanael co-founded a neurosurgical device company that developed improved technologies for one of the most common neurosurgical procedures. Before beginning work in patent law in 2013, Nathanael conducted academic research across multiple technical fields from microscale sensors and semiconductor processing to robot assisted surgery, neuroscience, and material properties.
