Perkins Coie Adds Michael Huston, from Office of the Solicitor General at U.S. Department of Justice, as Co-Chair of Appeals, Issues & Strategy Practice
WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 26, 2022)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Michael Huston is joining the firm in Washington, D.C., as a partner and co-chair of the Appeals, Issues & Strategy Practice. Michael previously served as an Assistant to the Solicitor General at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), where he represented the federal government before the Supreme Court of the United States.
As a member of the Solicitor General's highly regarded legal team, Michael argued nine cases before the Supreme Court and drafted briefs in hundreds more. Among many other victories, he prepared seven successful petitions for a writ of certiorari and dozens of successful amicus, merits, and emergency-docket briefs. Michael also advised the Solicitor General, multiple government agencies, and DOJ attorneys on all aspects of litigation strategy.

In his new role at Perkins Coie, Michael will advise Fortune 500 companies and other clients facing significant legal challenges on high-stakes litigation and appellate issues. As a member of the Commercial Litigation Practice, he will also help craft and manage litigation strategies for complex cases in all forums and at all levels.

Michael formerly practiced appellate and administrative law at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. He clerked for the Chief Justice of the United States, John G. Roberts, Jr., as well as Judge Raymond Kethledge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School, graduating first in his class, and he received his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Arizona.
