Matt’s practice focuses on patent litigation, inter partes review proceedings, and strategic intellectual property counseling for disputes involving complex computer and electrical technologies.
Matt Hindman is a registered patent lawyer who has counseled clients in patents and technology for almost two decades. Throughout his career, Matt has litigated more than 50 cases in U.S. district courts, before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board and the International Trade Commission, and on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has worked on matters involving microprocessors, computer memories, programmable logic devices, analog and digital integrated circuits, semiconductor devices, packaging and processing methods, wireless networking standards, light-emitting diode devices, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) resonators, and home security systems.
Matt’s particular emphasis is on technical analysis, working with experts, and developing case themes and strategies. He uses his technical aptitude combined with the ability to simplify complex technical issues to provide strategic legal guidance for his clients. Before practicing law, Matt worked several years as an electrical engineer in developing state-of-the-art microprocessors and memory systems. He has significant experience designing integrated circuits at the microarchitecture, logic gate, and transistor levels, and is proficient in Verilog and VHDL hardware description languages.

- Won a final written decision holding all claims unpatentable and denying patent owner’s motion to amend in an inter partes review for a Fortune 50 semiconductor company on a patent related to field-programmable gate arrays.
- Won a dispositive claim construction ruling that resulted in a dismissal following a Markman hearing before Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on behalf of a MEMS company on a patent relating to high-frequency silicon MEMS resonators. Successfully argued the dismissal on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
