Perkins Coie Helps Win Favorable Gun Safety Settlement for Columbus and Dayton Against Ohio
NEW YORK (August 30, 2024)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that a firm litigation team has won a favorable legal settlement for the cities of Columbus and Dayton against the State of Ohio in a years-long lawsuit related to the state’s criminal background check system.
In a significant win for public safety, Columbus and Dayton’s settlement with the State of Ohio will result in improvements and changes to the state’s criminal background check system. The cities’ lawsuit aimed to address deficiencies in the system that allowed critical criminal records to be missed with respect to both employment and firearm purchases.
Perkins Coie was co-counsel with Everytown Law, the litigation arm of Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund.
The Perkins Coie litigation team consisted of partners Margaret Meyers and Rachel Mechanic, counsel Spencer Gottlieb and associates Colin Ceriello and Emily Drinkwater.
