Sam provides business-savvy intellectual property (IP) guidance to help emerging and established companies reach the next level. Sam has counseled multiple startups in developing IP strategies that target rapid growth in their portfolios while retaining cost efficiencies.
Sam Hong works with companies across industries, providing day-to-day guidance to clients and serving as outside counsel to help anticipate and prevent potential problems. He regularly assists clients on topics such as open-source software, product roadmaps, competitive analysis data, and enforcement of IP rights. Sam also has experience working with bioinformatics clients on IP matters as well as privacy and government regulatory compliance with agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Experienced in both domestic and foreign patent prosecution, Sam has responded to hundreds of U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) actions and appeals. His representations have included companies producing hardware technologies, including robotics, semiconductor wafer and packaging, memory devices, system-on-a-chip (SOC), consumer devices, telecommunication systems, and medical devices. He also represents companies engaged in software technologies, including robotics control, bioinformatics, operating systems, user interfaces, signal processing, web-based applications, mobile unit applications, network management, machine learning (ML), security and privacy, as well as big data.
Prior to attending law school, Sam worked for almost a decade at Lockheed Martin as a senior electronics engineer.
