Cassie D. Roberts

Cassie Roberts counsels clients on complex regulatory compliance and permitting issues under state and federal environmental laws, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) and the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).

Cassie leverages her industry background to help clients understand how the legal and technical aspects of environmental law intersect. For example, Cassie helps mining and energy clients navigate complex issues under EPCRA's Toxics Release Inventory reporting program. She also helps clients navigate enforcement actions undertaken by local, state and federal agencies.

Cassie has assisted clients with environmental issues related to project development, including helping clients navigate complex regulatory and permitting schemes. She has worked on several infrastructure and development projects, including transmission lines, large mines, and a cruise ship terminal. Cassie's experience includes the development of a controversial large mine in Alaska.

As an extension of her environmental counseling and compliance practice, Cassie routinely advises clients on food regulatory compliance issues, including product labeling, licensing and registration. Cassie has also advised clients on CBD regulatory issues, an emerging and rapidly evolving area of law.

Cassie has a strong background in environmental science, including earning her Master of Public Health in environmental health science from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, where she focused on industrial hygiene and hazardous substances, and her B.S. in environmental science from Pacific University. Prior to going to law school, Cassie worked as an environmental engineer at Intel Corporation, where she ensured compliance with applicable environmental regulations for air, water and waste programs.

Cassie received her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School, where she was a member of the Environmental Law Society. While in law school, Cassie clerked at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Nashville, Tennessee, conducting research on various legal topics ranging from sentencing issues in a synthetic cannabinoid case to admissibility of evidence in an ID theft case.
