WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 13, 2020) - Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Nathan Kelley and Fabricio Vayra, both intellectual property partners in Washington, D.C., have been named 2020 Intellectual Property Trailblazers by The National Law Journal (NLJ).

NLJ recognized 25 IP lawyers who are “moving the needle” as innovators in patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret law.

Nate focuses on high-profile patent litigation appeals, inter partes reviews at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and related U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) work. Prior to joining the firm, he was the solicitor and deputy general counsel for intellectual property law at the USPTO and served as chief administrative patent judge of the PTAB. Nate was selected as a trailblazer in part for helping the agency navigate its implementation of the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act (AIA) and helping draft the AIA rules with an eye on their defensibility.

Fab counsels clients on establishing and protecting trademarks and copyrights and developing and implementing IP enforcement programs. He also focuses on domain name matters, internet governance policy strategies, and related regulatory advocacy. Fab was recognized as a trailblazer for applying practical experiences in internet-based intellectual property enforcement cases to the policy development world, including helping to create policies around new generic top-level domains policies and guiding the rules on how registrant data is captured, held, and made accessible.
