PHOENIX, Ariz. (July 6, 2016) - Jean-Jacques (J) Cabou, a partner in Perkins Coie’s White Collar & Investigations practice, has been elected as a member of The American Law Institute (ALI). J joins 15 other Perkins Coie attorneys who are members of ALI: C. Randall Bain, David J. Burman, Timothy W. Burns, Charles G. Curtis, Jr., T. Markus Funk, Kevin J. Hamilton, Steve Koh, Stewart M. Landefeld, Martin E. Lybecker, Lorelie S. Masters, Joel W. Nomkin, Katie O’Sullivan, Michelle M. Umberger and James F. Williams.

At both the trial and appellate level, J defends individuals and corporate entities against criminal and other government investigations, including civil enforcement proceedings. He has particular experience in white collar matters and is a recognized authority on both state and federal civil forfeiture, seizure and racketeering laws. His practice includes the defense of matters involving classified information, the state secrets privilege and national security. An experienced commercial litigator, J represents clients in certain complex civil litigation matters, especially where parallel criminal or regulatory enforcement action is present or threatened.

J represents entities across industry sectors, including resource extraction, petroleum storage, virtual currency, money transfer, gaming, wholesale pharmaceuticals, legal services, securities and music and entertainment promotion. His individual clients include executives in these and other industries, as well as public officials and other prominent individuals.

In addition to his practice, J sits on the board of directors for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He has been an adjunct professor at both the University of Chicago Law School and the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. J has served as lead counsel for clients in matters before the Supreme Court of the United States, United States Court of Appeals and United States district courts as well as Arizona’s trial, appellate and supreme courts.
