CHICAGO, IL (January 8, 2019) – Perkins Coie filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA), the Boone and Crockett Club, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF), the Wyoming Outdoorsmen, the Wyoming Outfitter and Guide Association (WYOGA) and the Cody Country Outfitter and Guides Association (CCOGA) in a closely watched case, Herrera v. Wyoming. The amicus brief was filed on November 20, 2018 in support of the State of Wyoming.

The outcome of this case threatens not only to overturn the delicate balance of federal, state, and tribal fish and wildlife jurisdictions that have served the public’s interests in the western United States since the late 1800s, but could also undermine the two basic principles of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation: that fish and wildlife belong to all citizens, and that they need to be managed in such a way that their populations will be sustained forever.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments in Herrera v. Wyoming on January 8, 2019.

The Perkins Coie team representing the amici include Partner John Schreiner, Partner Jennifer MacLean.
