SEATTLE (October 18, 2021)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Seattle-based partner, David A. Perez, has been appointed to serve as the chair of the firm’s Business Litigation practice.

David is a trial attorney whose practice is focused on intellectual property, real estate, class action, constitutional, and employment law. David is the first LatinX attorney to lead the national practice’s more than 100 attorneys who regularly litigate and prevail on behalf of plaintiffs, defendants, claimants, and respondents in complex legal disputes across the country.

“I’m humbled to be named chair of Perkins Coie’s Business Litigation practice, and truly appreciative of the trust and support of the firm’s management team as well as my colleagues and clients,” said David Perez. “Although the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged—and continues to challenge—how cases are adjudicated, our litigators have risen to this challenge. I would also like to sincerely thank Cody Weston and James Williams for their past leadership of the group.”

Perkins Coie’s Business Litigation practice features some of the most experienced trial attorneys in the country, including 15 fellows of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers. These litigators handle claims and disputes in any forum, including state, federal, or arbitration cases, related to contracts, corporate disputes, fraud, business torts, unfair competition, intellectual property rights, and federal or state regulatory violations.

In addition to his management responsibilities, David also maintains a very active pro bono practice, and currently serves as chair of the firm’s Seattle Pro Bono Committee. Recently, David received the ACLU’s Kathleen Taylor Civil Libertarian Award for outstanding contributions to the cause of civil liberties and justice. And the League of Women Voters named David a “Champion of Voting Rights.”
