Abdul K. Kallon
- Co-Chair, Trial Practice Group
Abdul is a veteran litigator with extensive experience at the highest levels of the justice system.
Abdul Kallon represents clients in high-stakes litigation, including general commercial litigation and labor and employment matters. A former U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama judge and skilled practitioner, he offers counsel that is informed by a deep understanding of the law—and the courtroom. Abdul collaborates with clients to manage their highest-profile matters involving business litigation, class-action defense, and workplace investigations. He works with leading companies across industries, from technology and communications to retail and consumer products.
Abdul was nominated to the federal bench by former President Barack Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2009. For more than 12 years, he presided over a broad range of civil and criminal cases, including employment, commercial litigation, and constitutional rights matters. He began his legal career as a clerk for Judge U.W. Clemon—a pioneering public servant who was one of the first Black lawyers admitted to the Alabama bar and one of the first two Black Alabama state senators.
Prior to Abdul’s judicial service, he was a partner in private practice focusing on general litigation and labor and employment counseling. He had a broad and significant trial practice before arbitrators and state and federal courts and tried multiple cases to a jury verdict in federal court as a first chair.
