What does Mentorship/Allyship/Sponsorship mean to you?
A great mentor, ally, or sponsor dispenses more than advice; she actively invests in your future through guidance, advocating on your behalf, and helping you create and/or take advantage of opportunities that come your way.
What do you define as key characteristics of a great leader?
I’ve been thinking about this one a lot lately with the current state of affairs in our country and watching institutions respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and what is hopefully a long-term reexamination of race in America. A key characteristic of a great leader is to lead fearlessly without considering whether the choices she/he is making will impact that leader’s future opportunities to lead. A great leader is also a vulnerable leader, and capable of admitting a mistake or incorporating and adapting to new information as a situation develops.
What is an accomplishment that you are proud of?
Surviving my first six months as the San Francisco Office Managing Partner during a pandemic and substantial political and racial upheaval. Kidding, not kidding.
Do you have a passion project or pro bono matter that you love and what is it?
Right now, I am focused on promoting diversity and inclusion in the SFO office so our office both reflects the diverse and vibrant Bay Area communities we serve and promotes social justice generally by creating a workplace where women and diverse lawyers and business professionals can thrive and advance diversity and inclusion in the legal industry generally.
What do you think sets Perkins Coie apart from its peers?
This is a place where you can practice law as a human. Our culture reflects an understanding that we are not super human, and we each have our own vulnerabilities or personality quirks. And as such, as are stronger as a whole as our team can bring their whole selves to work.
